User research

A deep understanding of your target audience that aligns with your CRO goals

The CRO agency with a solid foundation in user research

When done right, research is an extremely powerful way to better understand your target audience. When it is done by someone lacking experience, it can lead you down the wrong path.

That’s why we only have user researchers we know and trust on our team. Our head of operations spent 3 years working as a user researcher prior to coming to Credo, so you can rest assured that your research project will be ran to the highest standard

Research options

In-depth research projects are one of the best ways to understand the people behind your sales figures, challenge assumptions, and discover new opportunities. Research complements traditional CRO in that it reveals information that can be used to formulate hypotheses for testing. Expertly guided user research can reveal insights that inform future CRO testing success as well as having a profound impact on your company positioning and strategy.

You can combine a user research project with our full-service CRO, CRO Audit, or simply choose user research as a stand alone service. Below are a few of the user research services we offer. If you are interested in surveys, concept testing, prototype testing, or anything else, please get in touch to learn how we can help you.

Approach 1

Moderated user research

This approach pulls insights from watching participants interact with your website. An experienced moderator will encourage participants to reveal insights into thoughts, behaviours, and emotions, going beyond the ‘think aloud method’.

These findings are great for informing testing hypotheses, and can be used to implement changes to your website which improve the user experience.

Approach 2

Customer & potential customer interviews

Learn what motivates your target audience, what concerns or anxieties they have, and what they value about your offering.

The insights from this type of research improve your understanding of your target audience. This means you can better connect with users through your messaging and create an online experience that meets their needs.

Approach 3

User journey mapping

Better understand your existing customer experience to learn how to improve it for others. We speak to customers about their first exposure through to their relationship with your company in the present day.

We focus on highs and lows, discovering what appeals about your offering and how customers would improve the experience.

    User research - FAQs

User research is for companies that want to better understand their target audience, existing customers, or site users.

It gives more in-depth insights than a CRO Audit or site review as it involves speaking to real people. CRO Audits and site reviews cover a lot more in terms of what can be done on your site to improve it. Combining user research with a CRO Audit or full-service CRO is a fantastic way to get the data you need. With quantitative data, qualitative data, and heuristic insights, you will be well equipped to start testing changes to your site.

User research covers a wide range of activities, from adding an exit survey to your website, to running multi-day user testing in person with live participants. It is recommended that all companies embark on some kind of research, even if this is just a survey. This is because you don’t know what you don’t know, and research can be illuminating.

One of the biggest factors to consider with user research is budget. Whilst it is fantastic, it can come in more expensive than a CRO Audit or the monthly cost of full-service CRO.

Another factor is what you are trying to achieve. User research is narrower in scope than an audit and especially narrower than full-service CRO. But it can reveal things that CRO cannot, such as if a target audience are likely to respond well to a prototype.

If you are struggling to decide between CRO and research, the chances are that you would benefit from both. Why not get in touch to discuss which path is right for you?

User research and CRO are both valuable investments of your money. They help push you towards a greater understanding of your users so hypotheses for testing can be formulated.

We recommend investing in both as they complement each other but cannot replace each other. Whilst user research can greatly aid hypotheses formulation, it cannot implement tests. For this you need CRO.

The cost can span a wide range as user research can mean many things. We only work with highly experienced user researchers and all projects come with bespoke pricing.

If you are interested in user research but concerned about budget, the best thing for you to do is to send us a message. If you include how much you are wanting to spend we will be honest and let you know if we think we can help you.

Going beyond ‘user research’ if you have a sales team or a help desk, you can ask them what users are asking and talking about. Although not strictly the same thing, this kind of research can be done internally without any cost.

We specialise in larger research projects such as user testing and customer interviews with around 6-10 participants. We generally would only do exit surveys as part of our full-service CRO. However, we have experience of using surveys to carry out international research and are happy to use them within larger projects.
